John Foo

Director, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer

John is the Portfolio Manager for the Kingsmead Asian Alpha Opportunities Fund (inception March 2012, Asia-ex-Japan long/short equity) and the Portfolio Manager of the Kingsmead Vietnam and Indochina Growth Fund (inception August 2014, Vietnam long-only equity).

Prior to starting Kingsmead Asset Management, John was a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and Frontpoint Partners and also a Portfolio Manager of the Frontpoint Asian Event Driven Fund from August 2009 – July 2011 with peak AUM of US$212m. Previously, he founded and was CIO of Kingsmead Capital Advisors ("Kingsmead Capital") in Singapore. Prior to Kingsmead Capital, John was Resident Director and Head of Indus Capital Advisors (Singapore) Pte Ltd as well as an Executive Director and Senior Analyst of its Hong Kong affiliate, Indus Capital Advisors (HK) ("Indus Capital") from March 2005 to March 2008, covering Asia Pacific ex Japan markets for the Indus Event Driven Fund (AUM ~US$1 bn at the time).

John has over 25 years of experience in Asian markets, operating out of Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore. Before joining Indus Capital, he spent 4 years at Guoco Group Limited ("Guoco") in Hong Kong, with over US$4 bn in principal funds, scouring Asia for special situation investments. Prior to Guoco, John was Director and Fund Manager at State Street Global Advisors in Seoul from 1998 to 2000, primarily focusing on Korean mid-cap restructuring.

John started his career as an Investment Banker with CS First Boston, Merrill Lynch and Societe Generale in Hong Kong and Singapore. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) in 1987, and an MBA from the Wharton School with Distinction and a concentration in Finance and MA from the Lauder Institute in 1992. John is born and bred in Singapore. He is married and has a son.

Alain Guérard


Alain Guérard is a principal of the ManagementPlus Group, which provides offshore directorship, management company, company administration and consulting services to the alternative investment industry from offices in the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg and Singapore. He is the Managing Director of ManagementPlus (Luxembourg) S.A.

Prior joining ManagementPlus in November 2011, he was a member of the Senior Management Team of J.P.Morgan Bank (Luxembourg) S.A., the largest administrator and custodian in Luxembourg, with overall responsibility for the global promotion of J.P.Morgan’s Luxembourg leading franchise. Previously, he was EMEA head of sales and relationship management for J.P.Morgan Hedge Fund Services, the hedge fund administration and middle-office arm of J.P.Morgan Worldwide Securities Services. He began his career in 1994 in London with the Fauchier Partners Group as a hedge fund analyst. In 2000, he joined Fortis Prime Fund Solutions to launch their European Commercial Office in London. Before joining J.P.Morgan in 2006, he held Senior Sales position at Bank of Bermuda and RBC Dexia IS. 53

He is a member of the Luxembourg Institute of Directors (ILA), the Hedge Fund Working Group of the Luxembourg Investment Funds Association (ALFI) and co-chair the ALFI committee for the promotion of Luxembourg as a Hedge Fund centre. He holds a BA in Business Studies from the European Business School. He is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and is a founding member and executive of the Luxembourg CAIA Chapter.

Joseph Silva


Joseph Silva was Chief Executive Officer of Kingsmead Capital Advisors (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. from April 2008 until July 2009 and has over 20 years’ experience in the finance and fund industries, primarily in the design, launch and distribution of investment funds in the Asia Pacific region. Joseph was an elected head and representative of the Hong Kong investment funds industry as well as an adviser to regulatory, industry, governmental and ethical groups. More recently, Joseph has been involved with the launch of a hedge fund in Hong Kong.

Since 2007, Joseph has been a director & responsible officer of East Capital Asia Ltd., the Asian arm of East Capital, a Swedish asset management company specializing in Eastern European markets. Between 2004 and 2008, Joseph was CEO of First Investor Relations in Hong Kong. From 2000 till 2003, he was CEO of Friends, Ivory & Sime Asia Limited, an Asia ex Japan fund management JV between Guoco Group and Friends, Ivory & Sime plc.

Between 1995 and 1999, Joseph was Senior Manager and Head of Investment Services in Hong Kong for Standard Chartered Bank, and spearheaded the launch of their multi-manager fund distribution initiative. Between 1991 and 1995, Joseph worked for Credit Lyonnais International Asset Management (Hong Kong) Ltd. as their Regional Marketing Director. Joseph has also worked at Citibank Private Bank on the design and development of investment products and in Dao Heng Bank in a number of management positions.

In 2001, Joseph was elected Chairman of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association. He has also served on the Unit Trust and Investor Education Advisory Subcommittees of the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission and the Financial Services Advisory Subcommittee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is also a founding adviser to The Association for Sustainable & Responsible Investment in Asia.

Joseph is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Hong Kong. He received a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biological Chemistry from Essex University in 1979, and an MSc in Management Science from Imperial College, London University in 1981 majoring in Finance.
